Network Technician

Job Description

The Network Technician’s role is to support the stable operation of the project-wide LAN/WAN networks. This includes installing, configuring, maintaining, and optimizing all network switches and routers, IOS software, and communication links while ensuring minimal network downtime. The person will also assist in the diagnosis, resolution, and documentation of connectivity problems on the AUTEC project.

Responsibilities:

Collaborate with network engineers and designers to create optimal LAN/WAN design topologies and configurations.
Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot switches and routers, cabling, and IOS software.
Maintain and configure network devices, including routers, switches, and UPSs.
Monitor and test LAN performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.
Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory.
Support helpdesk staff on network issues.
Prepare and ensure accuracy of documentation, procedures manuals, and help sheets for switch and router installations.
Respond to emergency network outages in accordance with business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

AA or AS degree is required. Two (2) years of experience in related field may be substituted for each year of college.
CompTIA Network+ CE or Security + CE certifications.
Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) certification are required. CCNA preferred.
Three years of experience in the field of LAN/WAN networking is desired.
Valid United States Passport and Driver’s License will be required
Working knowledge of current TIA/EIA standards for fiber and copper cable.
Cabling installation knowledge and experience.
Working technical knowledge of Cisco IOS.
Working technical knowledge of network protocols, and standards.
Ability to operate network component analyzers, scanners, and testers.
Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Good interpersonal skills.
Ability to conduct research into networking issues and products as required.
Ability to prioritize, schedule, and coordinate a variety of activities and projects.
Physical effort required to include cable installations and climbing ladders.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to reside in remote location with limited medical facilities.

This position requires the individual to be eligible to obtain a US Government security clearance; US Citizenship is required.
